Using the learner library

Search the catalogue, reserve a resource, and manage your loans, renewals, and fines.

For: Learners

The learner library lets you find resources and manage your own borrowing β€” no need to email the librarian.

Find and reserve a resource

  1. Open Library in your portal sidebar.
  2. Type a title or author in the search box.
  3. Each result shows whether copies are available now. Press Reserve to borrow it, or to join the waiting list if all copies are out.

When you reserve an available copy β€” or reach the front of the waiting list β€” it’s held for you to collect at the desk.

Manage your loans

Open My loans (the button at the top-right of the Library page) to see three sections:

  • Borrowed β€” what you have out and when it’s due. Overdue items are flagged in red. Press Renew to extend a loan (unless someone else is waiting for it or you’ve hit the renewal limit).
  • Reservations β€” your active holds, with your queue position or a Ready for collection flag.
  • Fines β€” any outstanding overdue, lost, or damaged fees.

Tips

  • Renew early β€” you can’t renew once another learner reserves the same title.
  • Collect Ready reservations promptly; uncollected holds are released after the collection window.
  • Clear outstanding fines β€” they can block new loans.
