Setting Up Integrations

Connect Moodle, SMS, WhatsApp (chatSYMS), and other external systems to extend your skillSYMS operations.

For: Training Providers Administrators

Summary

skillSYMS connects to external systems through its Integrations hub. You can sync your Moodle LMS, send SMS notifications, communicate with learners over WhatsApp via chatSYMS, and generate QCTO MIS exports. This guide shows you how to browse available integrations and configure them.

Who This Guide Is For

  • Training providers extending skillSYMS with external tools
  • Administrators responsible for LMS and communications
  • Operations staff connecting reporting and messaging systems

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Admin access to your skillSYMS tenant
  • Credentials for the system you’re connecting (e.g., Moodle URL and API token)
  • A plan that includes the integration you need (some are plan-gated)

Step 1: Open Integrations

Navigate to Settings → Integrations (/sdp/settings/integrations).

Integrations are grouped by category—Learning Management, Communication, Compliance, and Finance—each showing its status: available, coming soon, or enterprise-only.

Step 2: Connect Moodle LMS

Click Configure on Moodle LMS (/sdp/settings/integrations/moodle) to sync courses, enrolments, and completions.

If your plan doesn’t include Moodle, you’ll see an upgrade banner. Otherwise, enter your Moodle connection details and save. The Connection Status card confirms when you’re connected.

Tip: Moodle and SMS are gated by feature flags. If you don’t see a Configure option, check your plan or contact support.

Step 3: Set Up chatSYMS WhatsApp

Click Configure on chatSYMS WhatsApp (/sdp/settings/integrations/chatsyms) to receive leads and communicate with learners over WhatsApp Business. This integration is always available.

Step 4: Enable SMS Notifications

Click Configure on SMS Notifications (/sdp/settings/integrations/sms) to send time-sensitive alerts—assessment reminders, OTPs, and deadlines.

To control which events trigger SMS at the tenant level, also review the notification toggles under Settings → Organisation.

Step 5: QCTO MIS Export

The QCTO MIS Export card links to your Exports area (/sdp/exports) where you generate QCTO01 and QCTO02 reports. This is always available—see the QCTO exports guides for the full reporting workflow.

Step 6: Request Other Integrations

Canvas, Blackboard, and Xero appear as coming-soon or enterprise-only. Use the Request Integration button at the bottom of the page to tell us what you need.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Plan mismatch: Moodle and SMS require a plan that includes them—upgrade if you see the banner.
  2. Wrong credentials: Double-check API URLs and tokens; a typo blocks the connection.
  3. Skipping notification settings: SMS only fires for events you’ve enabled in Organisation settings.
  4. Assuming all integrations are live: Coming-soon items can’t be configured yet.

Verification Checklist

Before moving on, verify:

  • Required integrations show as available for your plan
  • Moodle connection status shows Connected (if used)
  • chatSYMS WhatsApp is configured (if used)
  • SMS is enabled and notification events are set
  • You know where to generate QCTO MIS exports
